ICAR-Mizoram Centre conducts one day training programme on “Promotion of Vermicompost for soil fertility improvement in Mizoram”.

A training programme on “Promotion of vermicompost for soil fertility improvement in Mizoram” was organized under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib on 16th January, 2018. Twenty one farmers selected from Lungdai, Thingdawl, Kawnpui and Kolasib from parts of Kolasib district attended the programme.

Technical programme was started by Dr. Lungmuana, Scientist (Soil Science) regarding the feasibility and techniques of vermicomposting for improvement of soil fertility. Mr. Vanthawmliana, SRF, NICRA, gave presentation on the status of soil fertility and management of soil health through organic practices. Dr. Vishambhar Dayal, Scientist (Horticulture) highlighted the importance of integrated nutrient management and organic residues on the quality of horticultural crops. The technical programme was followed by demonstration of vermicomposting technology using different organic wastes and dung’s in the vermicomposting unit of the ICAR, Mizoram Centre by Dr. Lungmuana. Finally verminbeds was distributed in the presence of Dr. I. Shakuntala, Joint Director.
